In The Name Of Duration
Duran invited Emily Aust, Sarah Clark, Victor De La Fuente, Amal ElWardi, Eric Geiger, Nicholas Naylor Leyland, and Derek Weiler into a weekly durational performance practice during the month of April 2025. Each volunteer developed durational prompts between, around, and with one another. It is Duran’s hope that this experimental way of working serves as a creative lubricant; a vehicle for collaboration, curiosity, and unexpected growth during our time. What are we enduring? How do we endure? This process was inspired by Marcos’ research at the Marina Abramović Institute outside of Athens, Greece in Summer 2024, and in the Sanford Compassionate Communication Academy Fellowship at UC San Diego Health in Fall 2024. The collective endured 12 hours of interactive, durational performance on May 1+2 at City Heights Performance Annex in San Diego.
