Shapeshifter

45 min solo evening created and performed by Marcos Duran/Moving Works with the main gallery exhibition “Interiors” at Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockland, Maine. Sound and costume design by Marcos Duran. Presented by the Strand’s New Century Series In collaboration with CMCA. This work is a collaboration between the audience and Marcos’ prompts for participation in Craniosacral Integration, writing stories, and walking the space with other spectators. He seeks inspiration from his Native American heritage which stems from the Sonoran Desert that traverses northern Mexico and the Southwest United States. It is also an act of queer poetics. As he makes this dance, he surveys memories that rest in his body, and works with duration and ritual to depict the physicality of unwinding; his goal is to latch onto movement experiences where he celebrates living and breathing. October 2022.
